Germany kicked off their UEFA Euro 2024 campaign in stunning fashion on home soil with a 5-1 win over Scotland.
Germany had so many players perform well, without a doubt Kai Havertz who showed a masterclass as he brought his Arsenal club form to the national team.
Not only did he contribute a goal and an assist in a memorable opener, but his all-round performance was outstanding.
Havertz excelled in a false 9 role for Arsenal under Mikel Arteta, leading Julian Nagelsmann in attack brilliantly.
The 14-year-old has 25 goals and 1 assist in his last 25 Premier League games for the Gunners, silencing the doubters once again by proving his worth with smart movement, fine technique and interaction with his teammates.
He constantly uses himself as an outlet to launch attacks, and his keen spatial awareness and positioning are what makes him such a powerful force.
He is very good at identifying and exploiting space, and it is a real treat to watch him cause havoc to the opponent with his varied movements, constantly changing the opponent's reference point and making it impossible for the Scottish team to find the best rhythm to stop him.
There was a standing ovation when he was substituted off, and it was great to see the cheering home fans full of appreciation for his outstanding performance.
"I think it's great news when you win 5-1. But it's just the beginning. We saw the quality of the team, how good the players are. We will face other tough opponents," explained Havertz, who has now scored four goals in his last seven games for Germany.
"I think we felt the energy in the stadium from the first minute. The whole country was behind us and we saw it in the training center. We realised it."
While there was a lot of talk about Germany needing to field an out-and-out number nine, Havertz proved the doubters wrong with his versatile performance and once again justified the head coach's decision to start him.
Havertz played his role exactly as Nagelsmann wanted him to and showed why he is an integral part of the German team. All eyes will now turn to the next game against Hungary, where Havertz will once again look to cause himself trouble and propel his team to victory in the summer finale.
